The Cincinnati Bengals have not had star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase at voluntary offseason workouts this spring.
Chase hasn’t been at the practices as he seeks a new contract. He became extension-eligible this offseason after finishing his third NFL season and is looking for a big raise.
Chase’s absence has people wondering if he’ll be at mandatory minicamp next week and when head coach Zac Taylor was asked about that, he didn’t fully say yes or no.
“I’ve talked with Ja’Marr,” Taylor said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk). “I won’t get into our conversations, but we’ve had great dialogue.”
Chase has been one of the best wide receivers in the league over the last three seasons. He finished the 2023 season with 100 receptions for 1,216 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Chase has also recorded 1,000+ receiving yards in all three of his seasons to date.
He’s undoubtedly looking at the recent contract extension that Justin Jefferson got this week and will try to use it to his advantage in his extension talks with the Bengals.
Let’s see if the two sides can work out an extension before the 2024 season starts in September.
