A new addition in the Bengals backfield.
The Cincinnati Bengals are making a move in the backfield.
According to FOX Sports reporter Jordan Schultz, the Bengals are signing former New York Giants and Cleveland Browns running back Gary Brightwell to the practice squad.
A sixth-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Arizona, Brightwell spent the first three years of his pro career with the G-Men. He appeared in 37 games (no starts), recording 164 yards on 41 carries (4.0 avg) and one score while grabbing 11 passes for 92 yards (8.4 avg).
Brightwell ended the 2023 season on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, then was later waived with an injury designation in May of 2024. He later signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars but was waived during final roster cuts before signing to the Browns practice squad, then was cut on October 29th.
This comes on the heels of Cincinnati bringing in a host of players for workouts on Monday, including former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette. The addition of Brightwell could signal that the team will pass on signing Fournette for the time being.
