Bengals are making moves and strengthening their backfield
The Cincinnati Bengals are making moves. The trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, so there could be more activity on the horizon.
As for this deal, they are bringing in running back Khalil Herbert via trade with the Chicago Bears.
Herbert was taken by the Bears in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He hasn’t played much with Chicago, given the arrival of D’Andre Swift, so it was a perfect time for the Bears to offload him.
The Bengals, who were working with a two-running back duo of Chase Brown and Zack Moss, saw the latter get injured, so this works out well in their favor to keep their running back room fresh.
The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report the trade.
What the Bengals are sending to Chicago doesn’t seem to be known yet, but it will likely be a late Day 3 pick. Herbert has talent, but he shouldn’t have commanded much more than that, especially considering he wasn’t being used frequently in the Windy City.
Herbert went for a career-high 611 rushing yards last season and had a total of three touchdowns.
