Burrow clearly isn’t happy with how the team has performed in close battles.
The Cincinnati Bengals have now had multiple attempts to claw back to .500 for the first time since the start of the season, and both times, they’ve come up short. It isn’t for lack of effort, though.
The execution for this team, especially down the stretch when they have a lead, has been far from ideal, as fans got a glimpse of yet against on Thursday Night Football vs. the Baltimore Ravens. The Bengals, now 4-6, were led by Joe Burrow, who ended the game with 428 passing yards and four touchdowns.
He had the Bengals up 21-7 in the third quarter, but Cincinnati’s defense gave up 28 points in the second half, and the team ended up losing yet another one-score game in disappointing fashion after Burrow’s offense drown down and scored with under a minute remaining.
Burrow is clearly not happy with how this team has performed in close games.
“You look at how we’re [Chase and I] playing, and then you look at Trey Hendrickson, how he’s playing, it’s a tough pill to swallow. It’s tough when you feel like you’re playing well enough to win and you’re not, but there’s always more to do,” Burrow said after the loss.
How could one be pleased with the Bengals’ record in one-score games, though? They have lost to the Patriots by six, Chiefs by one, Commanders by five, Ravens by three, and Ravens again by one.
While he could’ve blamed the referees, Burrow didn’t and took this one on the chin. It’s just disappointing for a team that had Super Bowl expectations on their head. Burrow wanted the Bengals to win five of their next seven.
Well, now they need to win five of their next six, and we’ll see if this team can do that, as the Chargers, Steelers, Cowboys, and Titans are on deck in the coming month.
