Joe Burrow made his mark at the college level at LSU after beginning his career at Ohio State.
Despite the fact he was never the starting quarterback and attempted only 39 passes in his brief time with the Buckeyes, Burrow knows some Ohio State fans try to claim him as one of their own.
During an appearance on “Pardon My Take” this week, the Cincinnati Bengals star was asked what he would say to those fans.
“I didn’t play football there. I mean, I practiced football there…Did a lot of practicing and lifting. I graduated,” Burrow said of his time at OSU. “I usually tell people that I went to school at Ohio State and played football at LSU. I got a lot better from practicing at Ohio State but I didn’t get to play so I don’t really say that I played there. I got to live the backup quarterback lifestyle back then and that was fun. Got that out of my system and then was able to lock in.”
This might not be what some Ohio State fans want to hear, but it’s honestly a completely fair perspective from Burrow.

Burrow was J.T. Barrett’s backup in 2016 and was mostly third-string in 2017 behind Barrett and Dwayne Haskins. Over those two seasons, he connected on 29-of-39 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns in spot duty.
After losing the quarterback competition to Haskins during the 2018 offseason, Burrow transferred to LSU. The rest is history.
