The Cincinnati Bengals are holding practice Tuesday, but star quarterback Joe Burrow won’t be in attendance.
According to reporters, Burrow won’t be at practice, though Bengals Talk’s James Rapien says he is at the team facility. Burrow is still working his way back from surgery on his season-ending wrist injury.
The former No. 1 overall pick has been participating in workouts lately, so perhaps his absence today is simply about maintenance and rest.
We should find out later this afternoon when head coach Zac Taylor speaks with the media, per Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.
With Burrow out, backup Jake Browning will work with the first team today. Browning, 28, appeared in nine games last season and started seven with Burrow out of action.
The University of Washington product, who had yet to take an NFL regular season snap before 2023, completed 70.4% of his passes for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions as the Bengals went 4-3 in games he started.
In addition to rehabbing his wrist, Burrow also said recently he’s bulked up this offseason in an attempt to make himself more durable.
“I’m eating more, I’m more dialed as far as nutrition and food schedule and eating when I need to so that’s been a big area of emphasis for me and I’ve seen the results,” Burrow said, via Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.
“We’re bigger. Definitely bigger. We’ll see where I’m at at the end of the offseason. I feel good about where my body is right now. I’m going to continue to get stronger and bigger throughout the offseason and just play it by ear, depending on how I feel.”
