Who will win the primetime game?
Sunday Night Football this week is between two NFC teams who had high hopes coming into the season, but they are now at a crossroads in Week 8. The San Francisco 49ers sit at 3-4 and the Dallas Cowboys are 3-3 coming off a bye week.
The 49ers have had to lean a bit more on quarterback Brock Purdy than usual this year. Running back Christian McCaffrey hasn’t played a down, Brandon Ayiuk is now done for the season, and George Kittle has also been in and out of the lineup.
Purdy may be a guy who needs his supporting cast to overcome teams that aren’t at the bottom of the barrel. In the nicest way possible, he may just be an Andy Dalton-level guy who plays as well as his supporting cast. That isn’t inherently bad. It means if you build a good team, he will make it look good. It is just rough right now.
The Cowboys have had their own issues. They lost running back Tony Pollard this offseason, and their “efforts” to replace him have been essentially trying to turn back the clock with Ezekiel Elliott and other backup-level running backs. Quarterback Dak Prescott has also thrown six interceptions and eight touchdowns on the year. The defense has also allowed two teams to score over 40 points on them.
FanDuel Sportsbook currently has the 49ers as 5.5-point favorites in this one, with the point total set at 47.5.
