With the first wave of NFL free agency pretty much over, wide receiver Tyler Boyd ranks among the best and most experienced free agents at his position right now. Luckily for him, there’s no shortage of teams expressing interest in his services.
According to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic, there are five teams that have shown interest in Boyd thus far. Those teams are the Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers.
“Boyd has at least had preliminary interest from the Chiefs, Chargers, Dolphins, Lions and 49ers…” Kaboly wrote in response to a question about his chances of going to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Boyd has been rock-solid for the Cincinnati Bengals throughout his seven-year tenure with the team. He’s played in 120 games and has 513 receptions for 6,000 yards and 31 touchdowns.
But with two superstars already under contract in Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, there simply isn’t room on the Bengals roster for a player like Boyd who can command No. 2 or even No. 1 money on the open market.
It would probably behoove Boyd to get a deal done over the next few weeks as many of the teams that are expressing interest now could just as easily fill a roster spot with a younger, cheaper player in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Boyd and his representatives need to approach the next few days dexterously if they want to navigate their way to the best contract and fit for him.
