Another wrench has been thrown into the Trey Hendrickson situation.
According to WLWT’s Charlie Clifford, the Cincinnati Bengals star pass rusher has notified the team that he’s considering retiring before the 2024 season if he and the team can’t agree on a new contract.
This comes after ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report that Hendrickson requested a trade from the Bengals and is looking for more long-term security.
Hendrickson is one of the best pass rushers in the league and wants to be paid like it. He finished the 2023 season with 43 total tackles, 17.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three passes defended.
He’s finished with at least 13 sacks in three of the last four seasons and has recorded at least eight sacks in all four of those seasons. Hendrickson has spent the last three seasons with the Bengals after he was with the New Orleans Saints for the first four years of his career.
In seven seasons, he’s appeared in 93 games, compiling 174 total tackles, 59.5 sacks, and 12 forced fumbles.
The Bengals finished the 2023 season with a 9-8 record and missed the playoffs by a game.
