It was reported on Monday night that Joe Mixon would be released by the Cincinnati Bengals. Fast forward roughly 12 hours later, and the front office has actually found a trade suitor for the veteran running back.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Houston Texans are trading for Mixon. They have a need at running back after losing Devin Singletary.
The Bengals, on the other hand, replaced Mixon on Monday by signing Zack Moss to a two-year contract.
Mixon, 27, is coming off another season where he had over 1,000 rushing yards. Overall, he has 6,412 career rushing yards and 49 touchdowns.
In addition to being a steady runner, Mixon has proven to be a reliable option in the passing game. He has 283 career receptions for 2,319 yards and 13 touchdowns.
The full details regarding this trade between the Bengals and Texans aren’t out yet. It’ll be interesting to see what Houston gave up for a running back due $5.75 million for the 2024 season.
We’d have to imagine Mixon is OK with ending up in Houston. He goes from one franchise quarterback in Joe Burrow to another in C.J. Stroud.
Since the Texans have Stroud on a rookie contract, they have the cap space to build a star-studded roster around him. Adding Mixon certainly helps them towards that goal.
