Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is inching closer to naming a defensive coordinator for the 2024 season.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport just reported that Cincinnati Bengals secondary coach Robert Livingston is interviewing with Sanders this Wednesday. He’s expected to become the next defensive coordinator for the Buffaloes.
“Bengals secondary coach Robert Livingston is in Colorado today speaking with Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders and he’s expected to be named their new defensive coordinator,” Rapoport said. ” A Lou Anarumo discipline, he’s an impressive young coach.”
Livingston will replace Charles Kelly, who left Colorado this offseason to become Auburn’s co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
It was evident from the jump that Sanders was going to pursue a coach with NFL experience. It then became crystal clear when Ed Reed and Mike Zimmer were linked to the job opening.
Livingston might not be as flashy of a name as Reed or Zimmer, but his résumé can’t be denied. During his time in Cincinnati, he got the best out of defensive backs like Vonn Bell, Jessie Bates, Dax Hill and Mike Hilton.
Colorado gave up 276.9 passing yards per game this past season. At the very least, the secondary should improve under Livingston’s command.
