History in Pope’s first season at Kentucky
When Mark Pope established his roster and got prepared for this past season, there was a big emphasis on how good the 3-point shooting was going to be, and he was not wrong.
The 2024-2025 Kentucky Wildcats set a school record for 3-pointers made in a season, breaking the previous record that had stood for over three decades.
The Wildcats eclipsed their previous record of 3-pointers made by one singular bucket this season. The previous mark was the 1992-93 team hitting 340 3-pointers in 34 games. The 2024-25 team ended up making 341 this season.
In the history books, the number of games played doesn’t come into effect, so Koby Brea and Co. set a new single-season record this season for the Wildcats. Brea led the way with 93 makes from deep, followed by Jaxson Robinson (62), Ansley Almonor (39), Lamont Butler (27), and Otega Oweh (27). Twelve different players hit a 3-ball this season.
Collin Chandler ended up being one of Kentucky’s best shooters down the stretch. After hitting just three triples through February 15th, Chandler knocked down 14 over his final 11 games, including 5/8 in the NCAA Tournament. And over his final seven games, he converted 12/23 attempts from 3-point land, a staggering 52.1% rate.
Based on Pope’s preferred style of play at his last stop, BYU, I think a lot of people knew that this record had a good chance of being broken by this group of sharp-shooting upperclassmen. The Wildcats ended the season shooting the 3-ball at a 37.5% rate, which ranked sixth all-time in school history.
