Kentucky loses a member of its 2025 class.
In a surprising development on the recruiting trail, class of 2025 four-star point guard Acaden Lewis has officially decommitted from the University of Kentucky Wildcats, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.
Lewis, a dynamic 6-foot-2 floor general from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., originally committed to Kentucky and was the third and final commit for the class of 2025 for Kentucky. Even after the coaching transition to Mark Pope, Lewis reaffirmed his commitment to the Wildcats earlier this spring. However, the tides have now shifted.
“This was an incredibly difficult decision, but I have to do what’s best for my future,” Lewis told ESPN. “Thank you to Coach Pope and the whole Kentucky staff for all they’ve done for me so far.”
Lewis is regarded as one of the more poised and creative guards in the 2025 class. His ability to push the pace, create in transition, and defend multiple positions made him a strong fit in Kentucky’s backcourt plans moving forward. His departure creates a ripple effect not only for Kentucky’s recruiting outlook but also for the broader national scene as Lewis immediately becomes one of the most sought-after uncommitted guards in the country.
With Lewis reopening his recruitment, Kentucky will now likely shift its focus to other guards in the 2025 class or explore options in the transfer portal to reinforce their future backcourt depth.
For now, Kentucky’s 2025 recruiting class still features five-star guard Jasper Johnson and five-star big man Malachi Moreno, but Lewis’ decision leaves a notable hole in what was shaping up to be a promising class for Pope’s first full recruiting cycle in Lexington.
