Even with Kentucky out of AJ Dybantsa’s recruitment, they are still being mentioned.
The No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2025, AJ Dybantsa, is still working on trying to figure out where he will play basketball next year.
Of course, the Kentucky Wildcats are out of the race after being cut over the summer. Dybantsa is now down to seven schools, including Kansas State, BYU, North Carolina, Kansas, Auburn, Alabama, and Baylor.
The 6-foot-9, 5-star forward has made plenty of visits, but he has more in the future. BYU is seen as the favorite due to the amount of money the family can earn through NIL, while Alabama is also viewed as a major contender.
Dybantsa’s father, Ace Dybantsa, disagrees with the statement and says it doesn’t have to deal with NIL but where his son wants to play basketball, even mentioning Kentucky.
“As a matter of fact, AJ doesn’t know how much NIL they’re offering him,” Ace Dybantsa told Pete Nakos of On3. “My wife and I decided not to tell him because we don’t want money to be a factor in where he wants to go. … Our advisor, he handles the money for us. To give you an example, let’s say he chose South Carolina, which they have offered. They have $5 million on the table and Kentucky comes, Kentucky has $3 million. AJ wants to go to Kentucky — he’s going to Kentucky.”
Although Kentucky will not get Dybantsa, it was interesting to see that they were mentioned in the conversation and only if he wanted to go there.
At this time, it appears Dybantsa will more than likely go to BYU, and the school is reportedly offering “4 $4.5 million is what they [Cougars] are prepared to pay,” a source close to BYU told On3.
Where do you think the top-ranked recruit will land?
