Big news for the Kentucky backfield!
The Kentucky Wildcats may finally get Chip Trayanum on the field when they face the Ole Miss Rebels in Week 5.
During his Monday call-in show, Stoops announced that Trayanum was cleared to play after missing the last two months due to a broken thumb requiring surgery.
However, Stoops was not ready to say Trayanum will play this week down in Oxford.
“We’ll see. We weren’t in pads today, but he’s cleared to go,” Stoops said. “We’ll see what type of strength he has in that hand. It was operated on, so we’ll see how he comes along and what he’s like here throughout the week. But he’s cleared.”
Entering the season, Trayanum was expected to be RB1 for the Cats after transferring in from Ohio State. Thankfully, Kentucky did get good production out of Demie Sumo-Karngbaye and Jason Patterson in the backfield, while Jamarion Wilcox just had his breakout performance in this past week’s blowout win over Ohio.
Running back was easily the team’s biggest question mark when the season kicked off. Now, it’s suddenly a position with legitimate talent and depth heading into a pivotal stretch of the season.
