Kentucky is playing a fun style of basketball.
The Kentucky Wildcats hired Mark Pope this offseason, and with him came assistant coach Cody Fueger, who worked under Pope during their tenure at BYU.
Fueger had served as a coach in many other roles, spending time as a student assistant at Utah and an assistant at Utah Valley, among several other roles. He had spent the last five years with BYU.
Now with the Wildcats, Fueger recently highlighted Kentucky’s style of play and even spoke of a story in an interview with KSR’s Jacob Polacheck. The video can be seen below, but basically the gist is that every kid in the country should want to be playing in this high-tempo Wildcats offensive system.
Kentucky’s offense under Mark Pope has been fun to watch. It’s not just recruits taking notice.

Pope, who littered his roster with transfer portal players after coming in early into the offseason and losing most of the scholarship stars to either the NBA or the transfer portal, has a veteran team that is clearly coachable.
While there’s still a massive chunk of the season left, having that season-highlighting win over the top-10 Duke Blue Devils in the Champions Classic after falling behind at halftime is as good of a start as it gets.
Still among the undefeated teams in the country, the Cats’ 3-point-heavy style of play is fun to watch and should continue to translate into wins on the court.
Kentucky is averaging 29.8 3-point attempts per game, which ranks 21st in the country, while also knocking down an outrageous 42.3% of those, ranking ninth-best nationally.
Let’s hope that hot shooting doesn’t stop anytime soon!
