Mark Stoops announces that Boley is QB1 for the Governor’s Cup.
It’s official. Cutter Boley will start for the Kentucky Wildcats when they play host to the Louisville Cardinals this Saturday in the 2024 Governor’s Cup.
On Monday, head coach Mark Stoops announced that Boley would get the starting nod.
This comes following Boley’s impressive performance in Austin for Kentucky’s first showdown with the Texas Longhorns as new members of the SEC. It was yet another game where Brock Vandagriff was unable to keep the offense moving before being replaced by Boley.
The Cats fell short in a game in which they did have their fair share of chances to make it interesting but ultimately failed to score inside the 5-yard line for the fifth game this season.
Kentucky kept it tight for the first quarter, tying the game with a BVG touchdown pass to Josh Kattus in the second quarter, but unfortunately, after that, it seemed all downhill for the remainder of the half.
Vandagriff was just 3/7 for 51 passing yards and threw one very bad interception to go along with his touchdown. Brock didn’t quite look comfortable, especially with the Longhorns pass rush breathing down his neck after every snap it seemed, much like the rest of the season under the 2024 Kentucky offensive line.
The second half? Boley got the nod to start it, and people, we may have a potential quarterback for the future.
While the Kentucky defense couldn’t stop the Longhorns’ ground-and-pound attack, Boley showed that there is promise and a future at the quarterback position in Lexington.
Boley came in and threw for 10/18 for 160 yards and one interception — the interception being a prayer of a throw on a 3rd and 32 just trying to convert in the final minutes. Boley looked comfortable throwing the ball when he wasn’t getting constantly pressured or flushed out of the pocket, but when he did, he sure seemed very confident in throwing on the run. Boley ended up being sacked about five times.
With Vandagriff on the field, Kentucky did manage to score an offensive touchdown and gave Texas (somewhat) a fit early. With Boley, the offense and the quarterback himself just looked so much smoother and less clunky.

Kentucky is now ineligible for a bowl game at 4-7, but Commonwealth pride is still on the line this week, and Boley will be a big part of that as a Bluegrass native.
