The Cats will face off against their former running back in Week 1, while their top wideout finds a new home.
The Kentucky Wildcats have been active in the transfer portal thus far as they look to rebuild the roster after going 4-8 this season. That has also meant they have seen quite a bit of attrition from the roster this past year in Lexington.
That includes top wide receiver Dane Key, who is now taking his talents to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, he announced on Christmas Eve via Twitter. Key will have one season of eligibility remaining.
The Lexington native finished this past season with career-highs in receptions (47) and receiving yards (715 yards) while catching two touchdowns. Key ends his Kentucky career with 126 catches for 1,870 yards and 14 scores.
The Georgia Bulldogs were once viewed as the favorites for Key once he entered the portal, but he’ll instead reunite with wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts, who left Kentucky this offseason to take the same job in Lincoln.
Another one of the Wildcats who entered the portal this offseason was running back Chip Trayanum. After coming to Lexington last season from Ohio State, Trayanum will return to the Buckeye State to finish his collegiate career.
According to a report by Pete Nakos of On3, Trayanum has committed to Toledo for next season.
An injury in fall camp kept Trayanum out for most of this past season, and he was never really able to make the impact many thought he would have in Lexington. But the BBN will still get another opportunity to see Trayanum take the field at Kroger Field as the Rockets open the season with the Cats in September.
Best of luck to Trayanum in Toledo!
