Dick Vitale got a special message from Kentucky men’s basketball coach Mark Pope as the former continues to battle cancer.
Vitale was cancer-free for a bit until he shared that a lymph node on his neck was showing signs of cancer, so he’s set to get surgery for it.
After sharing it, he got a special message from Pope and it made him super happy.
“Coach Vitale, it’s Coach Pope at the University of Kentucky. Listen, I heard that you’re back (and) engaged in the midst of this struggle and I just want you to know this, man, you know this, but you have so many people around this world that love you, including me, that are cheering for you and praying for you and giving you all the love we possibly can. Get better soon because you have got to make a trip here to the University of Kentucky to come join us for practice, man. Come to a game. Let’s go, baby,” Pope said.
Just received a video message from @KentuckyMBB @CoachMarkPope about my recent cancer surgery . I have received many prayers from BBN fans & they are truly appreciated . pic.twitter.com/NWHbKaHCoL

Vitale had to miss the entire 2023-24 season after battling (and beating) vocal cord cancer. He currently plans to return to broadcasting in November when the 2024-25 season starts.
Here’s to a successful surgery for the basketball legend.
