The Bruins beat out the Cats for arguably the top transfer.
The Kentucky Wildcats have missed out on New Mexico point guard Donovan Dent, who just committed to the UCLA Bruins. This comes after Kentucky appeared to have jumped into the lead.
The junior standout will have one year of eligibility remaining while becoming Kentucky’s first transfer portal miss of the 2025 cycle. However, the Cats did manage to land Tulane transfer guard Kam Williams on Friday.
A 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard from Riverside (CA), which is ironically where Lamont Butler played high school basketball, Dent was one of the best playmakers in the country for a Lobos team that won 27 games and beat Marquette in the Round of 64 before falling to 2-seeded Michigan State in the Round of 32.
The Mountain West Player of the Year finished this season averaging 20.4 points per game on 49% shooting from the field and 41% from 3-point land. He also added 6.4 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.
Dent, who will likely be considered for Preseason All-American honors next season, had 19 games of 20+ points, four games of 30+ points, and one 40-point outing vs. a VCU team that made the NCAA Tournament.
Alas, Kentucky is on to the next one.
