Can the Cats actually make a deep March Madness run?
The Kentucky Wildcats have been the epitome of an up-and-down team to this point in the season. They have picked up huge wins against Duke, Gonzaga, and Florida but have also dropped some games against Ohio State, Clemson, and now Georgia.
Despite that fact, the Cats have one of the best resumes in college basketball and have plenty of opportunities to pick up some more signature wins throughout conference play.
That leaves a huge question amongst the BBN; what is the potential of this team?
Well, according to ESPN, they think this Kentucky team could make a run to San Antonio. In a new article Jeff Borzello and Myron Medcalf rank 76 teams on their tournament potential. They have the Cats in Tier II: Final Four Contenders. Also making this tier are Alabama, Tennessee, Houston, UCONN, Gonzaga, Florida, and several others.
Here is what they had to say:
“Kentucky is a conundrum. The Wildcats have defensive issues — see Tuesday’s loss at Georgia — that could cost them in the postseason, but an epic performance in Saturday’s 106-101 victory over Florida — Kentucky registered 147 points per 100 possessions — showcased an offensive firepower that could lead to a Final Four berth in Mark Pope’s first season.”
Kentucky has a lot to clean up if they want to make a run, but they have clearly shown the ability to beat good teams consistently. Now, it is just putting it together in the mid-tier games as well.
