While John Calipari seemingly wore out his welcome in Lexington, Arkansas fans are ready to welcome the former Kentucky coach with open arms.
The Razorbacks officially announced Calipari as their new head coach on Wednesday. DeMarcus Cousins, one of Calipari’s biggest stars at UK, thinks the 65-year-old coach is about to transform his new program.
“Arkansas will now be the hot spot,” Cousins predicted on a recent episode of his “Bully Ball” podcast with Rachel Nichols. “Arkansas will have the No. 1 recruiting class that’s coming in every single year. Arkansas will be full of celebrities. Arkansas will have the most talent coming in and out every single year.
“The machine will continue to go. It will just be in a new place.”

Cousins, who played at Kentucky during Calipari’s first season back in 2009-10, is a staunch supporter of the coach, even going as far as to defend Calipari during a conversation with former Wildcats star Rajon Rondo back in March.
While Calipari’s recent postseason struggles are well-documented, he certainly has not lost his recruiting touch. Kentucky once again signed one of the top recruiting classes in the country for 2024, and we’d expect Calipari to bring that prowess–and maybe even some of those particular prospects–with him to Fayetteville.
Calipari will be formally introduced during a press conference at Bud Walton Arena at 6 p.m. ET Wednesday.
