A cool story about the coach and player duo.
Good morning BBN!
The Kentucky Wildcats are off to a fast start this season as they sit at 10-1 with wins over Duke, Gonzaga, and Louisville already on the resume.
A huge reason the Cats have gotten off to a fast start is due to BYU transfer guard Jaxson Robinson. With plenty of weight on his shoulders, Robinson also attributes his growth as a player to heading to Provo and playing for Mark Pope at BYU.
Tyler Thompson of KSR did an interview with Robinson and his family on Thursday, and they pointed directly to the coaching of Coach Pope, as well as Robinson’s dog, Astro, to being a huge factor in his turnaround.
“My first year wasn’t the best for me, so going into that second year, I felt like I needed something that could keep me sane when I was not playing basketball,” said Robinson. “I didn’t have any family or really any friends in Utah, so I thought that getting a dog might be a good option. So, I got Astro back in Oklahoma off of Craigslist, and I flew him back with me to Utah, and then ever since then, he’s been my best friend.”
Now a player who could potentially climb up draft boards through SEC play, Robinson has already proven his toughness throughout the first 11 games. Whether it be running point guard duties, locking down on defense, or tapping into his pure scoring ability, Robinson is trending towards being a star for the UK team. Let’s hope that continues going forward.
On the other hand, the fanbase has gotten to see firsthand the type of coach Mark Pope is and also the quality of man he is over the last few months. This piece helps dive even deeper into that.
