A huge win in Knoxville!
The Kentucky Wildcats returned to the hardwood Tuesday evening as they traveled to Knoxville for a date with the Tennessee Volunteers. In somewhat of a shocking game, the Cats pick up another huge Quad I win, 78-73.
With all of the injuries to this Kentucky team, the start of the first half is exactly what the BBN needed to have some hope in this game. Jaxson Robinson had some stellar play, while Ansley Almonor continued to provide productive minutes for the Cats. However, the last four minutes of the half caused the Cats some more headaches. How so? Well, the Vols went on an 11-0 run to take a three-point lead into the half, 33-30.
Coming out of the half, it was an eerily similar start to what we saw in Nashville on Saturday. This team answered the bell, but could they hold on this time? Well, it wasn’t pretty late, but they totally beat down the Vols throughout the final 20 minutes and pulled out what seemed like an improbable win in Knoxville.
What a win in Knoxville. Now, the Cats and all of BBN will turn their attention to a date with Arkansas and the return of John Calipari on Saturday night.
But let’s first celebrate this one. GO CATS!
Highlights
Box Score

Game MVP
Without Lamont Butler, Mark Pope needed someone to step up and lead this offense against one of the toughest defenses in the country. That’s exactly what Jaxson Robinson did.
He finished the night with 17 points on 6-16 shooting and 4-9 from three. He also added four rebounds and an assist.
It hasn’t been easy in the games that Coach Pope has asked Robinson to run the point, with the last time coming against Gonzaga in Seattle. Just like he did against the Bulldogs, he answered the call tonight in Knoxville as well.
We also need to shout out Amari Williams. I think it is finally time we all realize how important he is to this squad. Numbers don’t lie, and he is continuing to show (especially on the boards) that he will be a key factor if this UK team wants to make a deep run.

If I’m Mark Pope, I pack it in and make Tennessee prove they can make some shots.

Remember, when they tell you there needs to be irrefutable evidence on replays, that remains complete and utter BS.

Kentucky’s 78 points are the most Tennessee has given up in a game this season.

Wrote about this Monday on Cats Illustrated, but this win moved Kentucky to 24-5 dating back to 2000 (excluding Covid and BGC) coming off back-to-back losses. It’s pretty rare for this program to drop 3 straight. Almost always good with backs to the wall and doubts facing them.

Final: Kentucky 78, Tennessee 73
Kentucky wins on the road without their 1st, 3rd, and 7th most valuable players according to https://t.co/cegyfz96ax (Butler, Carr, Kriisa). The injury adjustment was a full 3.5 extra points towards Tennessee, yet UK still gets it done. pic.twitter.com/lMb0VvOpvG
