Kentucky finally gets that signature win and one of the best in program history.
The Kentucky Wildcats headed on the road for the first time this season today as they squared off with another top-five opponent in the Ole Miss Rebels. In what was an epic game from start to finish, Mark Stoops and his staff finally got the signature win they have been looking for as they knocked off the No. 6 team in the country, 20-17.
If you are Mark Stoops and his staff, then you will be thrilled with how the first half played out for your team. They controlled the tempo and forced a high-power Ole Miss offense to really struggle outside of their first drive of the game.
However, the same complaint we have seen all season seemingly might have received an answer today: the offense has found a rhythm. Mark Stoops’ teams have always been the most successful in playing ball control, and although it isn’t the most fun type of offense to watch, it helped the Cats take a 10-7 lead into the half.
The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first. The Ole Miss offense came out on the first drive and pushed it down the field while the Cats struggled to get rolling. However, arguably the biggest play of Barion Brown’s UK career came late in the fourth quarter as the offense converted a fourth and seven for 63 yards.
Then, finally, the fumble luck came the Cats’ way as they scored the late touchdown to push the UK over the top for the upset after Gavin Wimsatt fumbled it into the end zone before being recovered by Josh Kattus for the score.
The Cats will now head into their bye week as they begin to prepare for a unique matchup with the new-look Vanderbilt Commodores.
With this win, the season is seemingly back on. Let’s keep this winning streak going.
Go Cats!
Highlights
Game MVP
This one could have gone to a pair of people, but I think we have to give this one to the full defensive line.
Whether it was Deone Walker, Octavious Oxendine, or JJ Weaver, this unit controlled and dominated the game from the jump. Coming into the matchup, this Ole Miss offense was ranked as the top in the country and outside of a few drives they really struggled to move the ball against Brad White’s unit.
That all started with the pressure and the play of the defensive line and their domination of the Rebels offensive line.

Great gadget play drawn up by Bush Hamdan was a walk-in TD but Kentucky cannot complete the pass.

It boggles the mind that Aidan Laros wasn’t Kentucky’s punter for the first three games of the season.

Another missed hold on that 2D shot play. Deone Walker was hugged in the middle of the line.

Brilliant game plan & execution by @UKFootball
They know exactly who they are and it’s so fun to watch. 22 mins Time of possession vs 8 for Ole Miss. 0 turnovers. 1 penalty. Up 10-7 at half!— David Pollack (@davidpollack47) September 28, 2024

Monster gamble from Lane Kiffin gets a pressure call from Kentucky and Ole Miss WR1 wins in isolation vs. a safety for the explosive play TD.
Agressive call by both play callers. Ole Miss wins the high-leverage moment.
