Kelvin Sampson are the Cougs are back in the Final Four.
Update: It’s final. The Houston Cougars are your Midwest Region champions and are Final Four-bound after demolishing the Tennessee Volunteers, 69-50.
The Cougars left no doubt they were the best in the Midwest, and they’ll now look to take down Duke in the National Semifinal.
This marks the Cougars’ seventh trip to the Final Four, somewhere the Vols have yet to go.
After two Final Four spots were locked up Saturday, the Houston Cougars and the Tennessee Volunteers will tip off today knowing Duke is on deck.
Houston survived a thriller of a game against the Purdue Boilermakers, breaking a 60-all tie at literally “the last second” to make their eighth Elite Eight all-time, while Tennessee beat Kentucky to make just its third ever.
Both teams are very physical and are often involved in low-scoring games, so this might be a rock-fight of a basketball game. If Tennessee wins, it’ll be their first Final Four in school history — no Volunteers squad has ever played on the sport’s biggest stage and they are one of the sport’s biggest brands that haven’t.
If Houston wins, it’ll be their seventh, and they’ll chase the school’s first-ever national title after finishing as runner-up in 1983 and 1984. Who do you think will prevail in the Houston-Tennessee showdown?
