White is a candidate for the Florida State defensive coordinator spot.
One way or another, the Kentucky Wildcats are in for a busy offseason.
Between having a roster full of seniors with no eligibility left, the quarterback conundrum, another potential offensive coordinator search, and the unlikely but still greater than zero-percent chance Mark Stoops is elsewhere, things could get hectic in Lexington come December.
Now, it appears a new defensive play-caller may be needed as well.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White is a candidate for the same position at Florida State following the Seminoles’ recent staff shakeup.
Nakos went as far as to say White could be open to taking the job if he gets his own personnel, which is likely alluding to players and fellow defensive coaches.
“A source told On3 White could be open to the move if he can bring in personnel,” wrote Nakos.
Of course, this could be White just angling for a pay raise. Then again, he’s already one of the highest-paid defensive coordinators in college football, so he may just be ready for a change of scenery.
It’s also worth pointing out that White may not be getting the consideration he deserves for head-coaching roles because he works under a defensive-minded coach in Mark Stoops. If he were to be the DC for an offensive-minded coach like Florida State’s Mike Norvell, perhaps White could prove he’s the real deal without the help of Stoops.
Going to be an interesting offseason in Lexington for whoever is running the ship.
