Doesn’t sound like the Big Dog is leaving Lexington for Hattiesburg.
We are approaching what should be a wild offseason for the Kentucky Wildcats as for the first time in several years, it appears some major changes could be coming.
Whether from the coaching staff or the roster, turnover seems to be coming, and one of the biggest names in UK Football has now been tied to another job.
Per a report by Justin Rowland of Cats Illustrated, Kentucky assistant coach Vince Marrow has been contacted about the head coach opening at Southern Miss. Matt Jones of KSR confirmed the report on the radio this morning but later said it looks like it won’t happen.
Marrow has been sought after by several different schools during his tenure, but this is the first time he has been tied to a head coach spot since the opening at Youngstown State. Unlike that opening, this one in Hattiesburg doesn’t seem to make a ton of sense.
With the smoke seeming to settle on this buzz, not only does the money not make sense, but neither does the location. Marrow has made his career in Kentucky by extending his footprint into Ohio and Michigan. Southern Mississippi doesn’t feel like the place where those ties make the most sense.
However, this is now the second assistant coach to be tied to openings this offseason, including defensive coordinator Brad White. Typically, when there is smoke, there is a fire. We likely won’t know what that fire is for a few more weeks, but this offseason continues getting more interesting.
