After some hatred was shown to the University of Kentucky logo, there was love shown to it over the weekend in Lexington.
A moment that stirred controversy during the NCAA Tournament at Rupp Arena has now been met with a message of love and respect from Jack Givens’ own family.
During Tennessee’s victory over UCLA in the second round, Vols guard Zakai Zeigler was seen flipping off the Kentucky Wildcats logo inside the tunnel, right in front of a Jack Givens’ picture — a tribute to one of the Wildcats’ all-time greats. The moment sparked backlash from Kentucky fans, who viewed the act as disrespectful to the program and its rich history.
One person who took it especially to heart was Givens’ granddaughter, who didn’t appreciate the gesture toward her grandfather’s legacy. But rather than respond with anger, she chose a different approach.
At the Kentucky High School State Championship this past weekend, she returned to the very same spot at Rupp Arena where Zeigler’s gesture took place. This time, however, she posed for a picture while making a heart shape with her hands, sending a message of respect, love, and Kentucky pride.

For Kentucky fans, it was a reminder of the deep connection between the program and its legendary figures. Jack “Goose” Givens, who led Kentucky to the 1978 National Championship, remains one of the most respected figures in Wildcat history. His granddaughter’s response showed that, despite any outside noise, the pride and tradition of Kentucky basketball continue to stand strong.
