Johnson showed exactly why he’s a 5-star recruit in his debut.
The Kentucky Wildcats secured the biggest recruiting commitment of new head coach Mark Pope when Jasper Johnson told the world he’s planning to play in Lexington next season.
Johnson committed to Kentucky on September 5th, choosing Big Blue Nation over almost every other program in the country, including Alabama and North Carolina. He is rated a 98 by 247 Sports and is ranked as the third-best shooting guard in the class of 2025, as well as the 13th-best player nationally.
Johnson has wrapped up his first game with his new team, Rod Wave Elite, a part of Overtime Elite. He dropped 27 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in their 90-82 win over Wilson Academy. He shot 9-of-17 from the field and 3-of-8 from deep.
The future Cat was 6-for-8 from the free-throw line as well. The biggest part that doesn’t get mentioned too often is that he did all that with zero turnovers. There are some highlights that can be seen from Twitter as well.
