The UK commitment stood out in Vegas.
The Kentucky Wildcats are getting ready for the 2024-25 season, which tips off in just over a month. Meanwhile, their current commitments in the class of 2025 are getting ready for their last season of high school basketball.
Mark Pope and his staff have made some noise on the recruiting trail early as they have landed 5-star guard Jasper Johnson and 4-star center Malachi Moreno. With the staff positioning themselves well with several other top prospects, it was Johnson who made some noise this week across the national recruiting scene.
Johnson participated this week in the Wootten Top 150, an invite-only event held in Las Vegas. Where did the noise come from? Well, he was named the top player at the camp.
Paul Biancardi of ESPN had this to say about Johnson’s performance;
“A big combo guard, Johnson displayed his rhythm-scoring ability. He went anywhere on the court and was comfortable quickly taking advantage of space to score while demonstrating his long-range jumper, pull-up game, and driving talent. Mark Pope and Kentucky have a homegrown national recruit with advanced scoring talent on the way.”
The big question surrounding this staff has been answered in terms of recruiting, and it is starting to look like Johnson might work his way up the rankings this season if his play continues at this level.
Still a huge honor for the UK commit and a huge accolade to add to his belt as the season draws near.
