Thursday afternoon saw one of the premier men’s college basketball recruits in the class of 2025 reveal his commitment.
Five-star shooting guard Jasper Johnson committed to the University of Kentucky. Johnson is the No. 2 shooting guard and No. 10 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
Johnson picked the Wildcats over Alabama, Arkansas, Louisville and North Carolina.
“I will be going to the University of Kentucky,” Johnson told 247Sports. “I feel like it was the best decision for me to grow and develop as a student-athlete. My parents went there. Being able to have this opportunity being from the city and being able to represent my city and state, I feel like this was the best decision for me.”
The son of former Kentucky football standout and NFL defensive end Dennis Johnson, spent last season playing for powerhouse Link Academy, but announced back in July he will spend his senior season playing for Overtime Elite.
The 6-foot-4 guard is the second 2025 commitment for new Kentucky head coach Mark Pope, joining four-star center Malachi Moreno, a top 30 prospect who verbally committed to the Wildcats on Aug. 16.
“When Johnson gets going, he can be a microwave type scorer who can get buckets in bunches. The key for him, in addition to building up his body, is being able to impact the game when the ball isn’t in his hands or he’s not in the midst of a scoring outburst,” writes 247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein.
Kentucky’s 2025 recruiting class currently ranks No. 2 nationally.
