Jay Williams isn’t on the “fire John Calipari” bandwagon.
Even though some media pundits think its time for Kentucky to move on from Calipari, Williams thinks it would be “absurd” for the school to move on from him.
“It’s absurd,” Williams said.
Kentucky lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last three years.
The Wildcats came into the tournament as a 3-seed but fell to 14-seed Oakland after they fell behind early in the first half. They weren’t able to claw their way back in the second half.
They had a lot of expectations for the tournament and some pundits even had them making the national title game.
Unfortunately, they weren’t able to meet them and they now face a lot of questions heading into the offseason. They haven’t made an Elite Eight since the 2018-19 season and have also not won a national championship since 2011-12.
Calipari will likely get another chance at ending both of those streaks next season since his buyout is nearly $34 million for this year.
Barring something unforeseen, the Wildcats won’t move on from Calipari due to how much that is.
