A cool look back at a UK legend.
The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball season is quickly approaching, and the BBN got to honor some all-time greats of the school this past weekend.
With the UK Hall of Fame inducting six new members this year, one basketball player finally got to see his name join a long list of former players that are enshrined in Kentucky lore. It was none other than Jodie Meeks.
Looking back, there are plenty of cool moments that Meeks gave the fanbase, including the all-time record for points in a game as he dropped 54 against Tennessee. He gave us plenty to cheer for during his time in the blue and white, but it was the 1998 Elite Eight matchup against Duke that he credits with leading him to Kentucky.
Meeks talked about that moment on Friday night.
“As a kid, I always dreamed about going to a big-time basketball school like here. One particular moment stands out in my mind, and that’s Kentucky – Duke in 1998,” Meeks said. “I’m getting old, for sure. It was the Elite Eight game. It was a back-and-forth game. Coach (Tubby) Smith was the coach in his first year. I remember telling my parents, ‘I want to go to school just like that.’ And little did I know that it would happen. So another work of the good Lord.”
A cool story for the BBN surrounding an all-time great and favorite of the BBN.
