There’s been a lot of talk about John Calipari’s future at Kentucky after his team had an early exit at the NCAA Tournament again on Thursday.
Kentucky has lost in the first round of the tournament in two of the last three years and has lost four of its five last NCAA Tournament games.
The lack of success has fans wondering if Calipari could be let go as head coach but Jon Rothstein doesn’t see it.
Calipari’s buyout at Kentucky is a tad over $33 million so unless another team pays him close to $34 million, he’s going to stay as the program’s head coach.
If Calipari does come back, he might have to make some changes to the program due to not having less success over the last few seasons.
This is a program that hasn’t made a regional final (Elite Eight) since the 2018-19 season and has also not been to a Final Four since 2015. Kentucky’s last national championship came in 2012.
As for Oakland, who beat Kentucky on Thursday, it awaits the winner of the North Carolina State-Texas Tech game, which is currently ongoing.
You can watch it on CBS.
