After John Calipari’s goodbye to the University of Kentucky, his wife released an emotional statement of her own on Tuesday.
Taking to Instagram with a three-minute video captioned: “Thank you Kentucky!” Ellen Calipari, affectionately nicknamed “Mrs. Cal,” spoke on what this chapter in her life meant to her and her family; including her “roommate” John.
If you think this is easy to do you’d be wrong. … It’s been a great pleasure to be here, we’ve been here 15 years — which is very hard to believe. … We’ll have a lot of very fond memories of being in Lexington. It’s been an honor to be a part of the university and I hope we leave behind a lasting legacy. … We will miss a lot of things about Lexington and the University of Kentucky and we just both want to give our thanks.
… You’ve been very good to me and I appreciate that and it couldn’t have been a better place to be for 15 years. … It’s been my honor to be ‘Mrs. Cal’ and make brownies for a lot of these guys who have come through here. Thank you for everything you’ve done for myself and my family… and my roommate [shrugs]. Thank you.
Mrs. Calipari quickly became a fan favorite in Big Blue Nation with her funny social media posts and motherly instincts.
She’ll certainly be missed by the people of Kentucky, even if things didn’t end the best with her husband and the school.
