Before he makes his way to campus this summer, Kentucky commit Jasper Johnson is traveling across the country to play in prestigious high school All-Star Games.
On Friday night, Johnson was in Washington, D.C., for the 2025 Jordan Brand Classic. The four-star guard (No. 23 overall) did most of his damage in the first half for Team Flight, finishing with 12 points on 5-9 shooting behind a handful of three-pointers and athletic dunks. He went 2-6 from deep while chipping in five rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes without a turnover. But Team Air made a furious rally during the second half and into the Elam Ending, pulling out the 141-124 win.
Watching Johnson from the sidelines was a familiar face. Former Kentucky guard John Wall, who was a five-time NBA All-Star with the Washington Wizards (2010-19), was seated courtside to check out the action.
Would it have been nice if Johnson got some more run? Of course, but he at least took advantage of the time he had and produced a few highlight plays. Syracuse commit Kiyan Anthony, the son of Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, was named the event’s MVP after dropping 26 points.
Also featured in the Jordan Brand Classic was recent Kentucky decommit Acaden Lewis, who flashed his playmaking whenever on the floor for Team Air. There was an odd moment where one of the commentators apparently didn’t realize Lewis had already committed and decommitted from the ‘Cats. She stated Lewis was down to UK, UConn, North Carolina, and Duke, with Kentucky serving as the favorite to land him.
It’s probably best to do some homework before going live on air, but I digress…
This was the second All-Star event of the spring for Johnson, who also suited up for the Nike Hoop Summit last week in Portland. Teammates with fellow Kentucky commit Malachi Moreno on Team USA, neither of the future Wildcats got a fair shake in what was actually a competitive environment. Johnson played just five minutes in the Hoop Summit, shooting 0-4 from the field, while Moreno registered three rebounds and one steal in eight minutes. He did not take a single shot attempt.
Johnson will go through one more All-Star Game before making his way to Lexington for the summer. He’ll participate in the Iverson Classic on Saturday, May 3, in Hampton, VA.
