Kenny Brooks has the Cats positioned to make a run this spring.
In his first year taking over the program, Kentucky Wildcats head coach Kenny Brooks has done a masterful job.
Not only are the Cats sitting with an impressive 19-2 record on the season, but they’re also playing a fun brand of basketball that has captivated the Big Blue Nation. It becomes evident very quickly when watching UK play that their roster is littered with talent at each position.
Keep in mind, the SEC isn’t just a tough place for the men, the women face tremendous challenges each week from a solid conference that features top programs in the nation like South Carolina, Texas, and LSU.
UK currently holds an 8-1 record in SEC play, trailing only South Carolina, Texas, and LSU, who all sit at 10-1.
Kentucky still hasn’t played any of the teams ranked ahead of them, so there’s plenty of time to make up some ground before these critical matchups:
- Texas @ home on 2/13
- LSU @ home on 2/23
- @ South Carolina on 3/2
Obviously, competing against Dawn Staley’s well-oiled machine at South Carolina is never an easy task, but the Cats are positioned to hold their own this year in what will be the last game of the regular season on March 2nd.
If the season ended today, Kentucky would have a double-bye in the SEC Tournament as the No. 4 seed with plenty of wiggle room, as Alabama and Ole Miss are multiple games behind the Cats.
Here’s a look at the top of the SEC standings ahead of Kentucky’s Monday showdown at Ole Miss.

Ultimately, the Wildcats may just go as far as their superstar guard, Georgia Amoore, can take them. Amoore has lit up opposing defenses all season and recently dropped 43 points on #13 Oklahoma.
For the season, she’s averaging just under 20 points per game while dishing out 7.5 assists. Those numbers are pretty incredible to digest. The balance of her scoring and getting teammates involved is what sets Amoore apart from other guards in America.
Clara Strack is also having a nice sophomore campaign, averaging 15.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
Could this be the year for the Cats?
If nothing else, the stage is set for a run this March.
