Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart wasn’t happy after last night’s men’s basketball loss.
Barnhart refused to speak with the media after Kentucky bowed out of the NCAA Tournament early again.
Kentucky, which came into the tournament as a No. 3 seed, lost to 14-seed Oakland in the first round on Thursday night. The Wildcats got off to a slow start and weren’t able to close the gap in the second half.
It’s led to plenty of questions surrounding head coach John Calipari. He’s been at the helm for two first-round losses in the last three years and hasn’t gotten the Wildcats to an Elite Eight since the 2018-19 season.
It’s also been over a decade since the Wildcats won their last national title.
If they want to get back to making deep runs, they’re going to have to make some changes for next season and beyond. They can’t keep doing the same thing and hoping it’ll work.
If Calipari does return for next season, he may need to look a bit more at the transfer portal for experienced players who can help some of his younger players.
Kentucky finished the 2023-24 season with a 23-10 overall record.
