Mark Stoops released some good injury news on Wednesday about Maxwell Hairston.
A key piece of the puzzle on defense could be returning next game for the Kentucky Wildcats when they face off against Murray State.
During The Mark Stoops Show on Wednesday, Stoops gave a major update on star cornerback Maxwell Hairston. Stoops says that if Hairston continues to make progress like he is currently, he will play against Murray State.
While speaking of injuries, Stoops did not give an injury update to quarterback Brock Vandagriff after he suffered a head injury against Tennessee.
Hairston has been a key factor on Kentucky’s defense throughout the years but has been out for five straight games for the Wildcats. The last time Hairston played was September 21 against Ohio, when he tied a school record for career pick-sixes with three.
Kentucky needs Hairston back quickly due to the depth in the cornerback room. Currently, the Cats are relying on JQ Hardaway, Nasir Addison, and true freshman Terhyon Nichols.
Before the season started, Hairston was tabbed as a Preseason All-SEC selection at cornerback. Thus far, his stats are eight tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a pick-six.
With Kentucky still having a bye week, they hope to be fully healthy when Murray State comes to town. Kentucky will be back at home at Kroger Field on Saturday, November 16, at 1:30 PM ET on SECN+.
