Sounds like McGowan could join the Wildcat backfield soon.
The Kentucky Wildcats are looking to add another player in the backfield during the spring transfer portal window. New Mexico State tailback Seth McGowan could reunite with his former Aggies teammate, who is now the starting left tackle for the Wildcats.
On3’s Pete Nako reports that Kentucky “has the early momentum to land McGowan” out of the portal. McGowan signed with the Oklahoma Sooners during the 2020 recruiting cycle. The Texas native rushed for 370 yards as a true freshman for the Sooners before being dismissed from the program before the 2021 season due to an armed robbery investigation. McGowan ended up serving a year of probation for the case.
The former Aggie was forced to take a hiatus from college football for a couple of years due to the investigation. McGowan cleared his name, then played NAIA football for Texas College in 2022, and then played for Butler Community College in 2023.
The 6-foot-1 tailback landed at New Mexico State for the 2024 season and rushed for 813 yards on 5.3 yards per carry. McGowan also saw some action in the passing game, racking up 23 catches for 277 yards and three scores.
The junior tailback officially entered the transfer portal on April 17th, and Kentucky has been a name to watch.
