The Cats throw down an emphatic dunk on the Rebels and their playoff hopes.
The Kentucky Wildcats may have done more than just pull off a gritty road win against Ole Miss this past weekend — they might have dunked right on the Rebels’ playoff dreams.
And the irony couldn’t have been sweeter for Kentucky fans.
For those unfamiliar with the latest sideline tradition at Ole Miss, the Rebels have embraced a unique celebration after every touchdown or turnover. It’s their version of football theatrics — a “Dunk Celebration.”
They wheel out a portable basketball hoop, slap the opponent’s logo on the backboard, and have a player throw down a dunk. It’s all about swagger, fun, and showing up the other team.
What was supposed to be a swagger-filled dunk on Kentucky quickly turned into a premature — and, let’s be honest, hilarious — backfire.
Now, the Wildcats can proudly say they’ve dunked on the Rebels in more ways than one.
It all seemed to be going according to script for Ole Miss in the third quarter when receiver Tre Harris caught a 48-yard touchdown pass to give the Rebels a 17-13 lead.
Cue the hoop!
I took this from the Ole Miss photo gallery so I can mock them forever for dunking on this 8-foot goal and then losing. pic.twitter.com/avpfu6w8pQ

Instead of folding, Kentucky’s defense shut Ole Miss down the rest of the way. The Wildcats played tough, physical football, capitalizing on their chances. In the final minutes, Kentucky scored a go-ahead touchdown to take a 20-17 lead, sending the Ole Miss faithful into a state of shock.
The Rebels had one last chance to salvage the game with a field goal, but kicker Caden Davis shanked the attempt wide left, sealing the Wildcats’ improbable victory.
As Kentucky celebrated, Rebel fans were left wondering how things unraveled so quickly. One minute, they were dunking on Kentucky, and the next, they were staring down a season-defining loss that could derail their playoff aspirations.
In the end, the Dunk Celebration might need some rethinking. After all, if you’re going to bring basketball into the conversation, Kentucky is the last team you want to mess with.
