This might have been the most impressive.
The Kentucky Wildcats got their fourth win over an AP top-10 team this season, and by doing so, their third straight win in Knoxville over the Tennessee Volunteers dating back to January 2023.
This win marks the third time in as many tries that Kentucky was a heavy underdog heading into Food City Arena. This time, the Cats were an +10.5 underdog, their largest of the season.
In January of 2023, Kentucky came into Knoxville as a +10.5 underdog with a 10-6 record overall and 1-3 mark in SEC play, according to ESPN. Kentucky went on to win that game in a 63-56 slugfest led by Antonio Reeves with 18 points and Oscar Tshiebwe with 13 rebounds.
Last year, in the final game of the regular season, Kentucky came in +8.5 underdogs while boasting a 22-8 record and 12-5 in SEC play. They went on to pull away with an 85-81 victory, led by Antonio Reeves and Reed Sheppard with 27 points apiece.
Knoxville has been kind to the Wildcats in recent years, but the Vols and Cats still have one more dance to do in Lexington in a few weeks on February 11th. Tennessee won at Rupp Arena last season.
Let’s hope Andrew Carr and Lamont Butler will be able to play in the rematch.
So, of the three straight wins the Cats have scored in Knoxville, was this the most impressive?
