Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats have reportedly added a sniper via the transfer portal.
On Wednesday UK landed a commitment from Dayton transfer Koby Brea, who’s widely considered the best shooter in college hoops and shot 50% from deep on six attempts per game in 2023.
Brea chose Kentucky over the likes of Duke, UNC, Kansas and reigning back-to-back national champion UConn.
“Growing up, I was told I was dreaming too big whenever I’d say my dream was to play for the University of Kentucky,” Brea told Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com. “I feel like God does everything for a reason, and he has put me in a position where I’m able to play for my dream school in my last year of college, while playing for something bigger than myself.”
The 6’6″ two-guard earned Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year honors for the second time in his career last season and becomes the sixth player to commit to the Wildcats out of the portal.
He joins Drexel’s Amari Williams, San Diego State’s Lamont Butler and Wake Forest’s Andrew Carr on the Wildcats roster. Along with Oklahoma State sophomore Brandon Garrison and OU upperclassman Otega Oweh.
Coach Pope has made it clear that he values experience and shooting this offseason — two things the University of Kentucky never really had under John Calipari.
