Kentucky is off to a 1-0 start after cruising past Southern Miss 31-0 on a bizarre Saturday night at Kroger Field.
The started of the game was delayed well over two hours because of lightning in the Lexington area.
After a shortened halftime break, the Wildcats added a touchdown in the third quarter. Shortly after that, lightning was detected in the area once again, forced a halt in play.
After a meeting, officials decided to suspend the game and make it official with 9:56 to play in the third quarter:

“By mutual agreement of the participating institutions as permitted by NCAA rules, tonight’s game between Kentucky and Southern Mississippi has been terminated and is considered a complete game with a final score of 31-0 in favor of Kentucky. All statistics in the game are considered final and complete.”
New quarterback Brock Vandagriff with 12-for-18 for 169 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception to lead Kentucky. He also ran the ball 5 times for 35 yards.
Demie Sumo-Karngbaye had 8 carries for 59 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats on the ground.
Ja’Mori Maclin caught 2 passes for 66 yards. Dane Key hauled in 3 catches for 60 yards. Barion Brown only had 4 receptions for 28 yards but 2 of those end with touchdowns.
