A new name to monitor.
The Kentucky Wildcats are on a mission to build out the most competitive roster they can, and they’re doing a terrific job so far in the transfer portal.
With Mark Pope’s first 5-star commit as Kentucky’s head coach in Jasper Johnson coming to town, the Cats were already going to have an ultra-talented team put together for next season, but they’ve continued to add top-notch players.
The Wildcats were able to get a commitment from Kam Williams from Tulane earlier on, then got the news they’d have Pitt’s Jaland Lowe as well. More recently, the Cats brought in some frontcourt talent in Alabama’s Mouhamed Dioubate and Arizona State’s Jayden Quaintance.
Now, we can add Cincinnati guard Dan Skillings Jr. to the list of transfers Kentucky has reached out to. Per Kentucky Sports Radio’s Jacob Polacheck, the Wildcats have contacted the New Jersey product.
Skillings has spent all three of his collegiate seasons at Cincinnati, helping the program transition from the AAC to the Big 12. He continued to improve his efficiency each and every season. As a junior, he averaged 9.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, shooting 44% from the field but just 29.9% from deep.
Skillings was a top-100 recruit in the Class of 2022 and is originally from Blackwood, New Jersey.
The 6-foot-6 guard would give Pope ample size on the wing, but it’s no secret that Kentucky is in the mix for bigger fish like Jaron Pierre and Wesley Yates. Perhaps Skillings will be someone to monitor if other options fall through.
