Kentucky is targeting another forward as they are looking to replace Andrew Carr and Ansley Almonor.
The transfer portal continues to heat up, and one name drawing significant attention is Duncan Powell.
According to 247 Sports national basketball recruiting analyst Dushawn London, the Georgia Tech transfer forward visited Memphis on Wednesday but has been in contact with the Kentucky Wildcats.
Powell, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward, has taken a winding road through college basketball. He originally began his career at North Carolina A&T, where he spent two seasons and averaged 7.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game while playing 21.8 minutes per contest.
Looking for a bigger opportunity, he transferred to Sacramento State for his redshirt sophomore year, where he made an immediate impact by posting 12.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 26.5 minutes per game.
His strong performance at Sacramento State earned him a chance at the high-major level, leading him to Georgia Tech for his redshirt junior season. While with the Yellow Jackets, Powell played in 33 games, earning 13 starts, and put up solid numbers — 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 29.5 minutes per game. Now, after just one season in Atlanta, he’s on the move once again.
Since entering the transfer portal, Powell has drawn interest from multiple programs, including Kentucky, Memphis, Providence, TCU, and Ole Miss. His ability to score and rebound as a versatile forward makes him a valuable target for teams looking to add experience and size to their frontcourt.
With Powell’s skill set and experience at multiple levels of college basketball, he could be a strong addition to Mark Pope’s squad. Keep an eye on Powell as he weighs his options and prepares for the next chapter of his career.
