A horrific call.
Much went wrong for the Kentucky Wildcats in their 48-20 shellacking at the hands of Florida. It’s easy to remember the final score, but there was a point where it appeared Kentucky was getting back in the second half after going down 27-6.
However, what little momentum Kentucky had when the lead was cut to 27-20 was undone by arguably the most appalling touchdown call you’ll see by an official this season. It was that bad.
Following a Kentucky touchdown to make the game 27-20 in the third quarter, the Gators drove down the field and were in a 4th & goal position at the 1-yard line. The Gators went for it with running back Jadan Baugh running it up the middle for what was ruled a touchdown.
Visible to anyone with a pair of eyes and good vision, which the officials possessed neither, Baugh was stopped short of the goal line.
While no official raised their hands to signal a touchdown, a Florida player did, and the stadium proceeded with a TD light show.
This was just called a TD, after a review.

Despite not signaling a touchdown, the officials’ inability not to call it somehow led to a TD being the official call on the field. While a review was called, there had to be “inconclusive” video evidence to overturn the call. In a pile of a dozen players and a pylon camera from the mid-2000s, no such evidence was available.
What makes it worse, a similar situation happened in the first half with Kentucky in the red zone. Yet, the officials made the opposite call.

In the big picture, neither of these calls would have won Kentucky the game. They lost by 28 points and were outplayed from start to finish. However, it is concerning when officials allow stadium atmospheres to dictate calls.
Let’s hope this doesn’t happen in a game that’s actually decided by a play or two.
The Titans would have been Super Bowl XXXIV champions if this crew was officiating the game. pic.twitter.com/nI0A4XhGFT
