A pair of former Kentucky Basketball targets have announced new lists that don’t include the Wildcats.
With the summer AAU circuit wrapping up, two recruits have announced new lists that don’t include the Kentucky Wildcats.
On Thursday, 5-star guard Trey McKenney announced his top 10, and Kentucky did not make the cut.
Creighton, Georgetown, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA, and USC did make it.
Later, 4-star guard Kiyan Anthony also cut his list, this one to six, and Kentucky was removed from consideration.
USC, Rutgers, Ohio State, Auburn, Florida State, and Syracuse made the cut for the son of former NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony.
Seeing the Cats miss out on Anthony is no surprise. While they did recruit him when John Calipari was still leading the program, there’s been nothing to suggest Kentucky was still in the mix once Cal left for Arkansas.
It is a bit surprising to see Kentucky eliminated for McKenney, as the school has recruited him since Mark Pope was named head coach.
“I’ve talked to Alvin Brooks. This is recent, when he got to Kentucky,” McKenney said in a June interview with KSR while later adding, “Kentucky is one of the biggest schools in college basketball, so having them talk to me is a blessing.”
Typically, not making a top 10 means a school wasn’t making said recruit a priority, so one could surmise that Pope has been prioritizing other guards. Among Kentucky’s other backcourt targets are Jasper Johnson, Darryn Peterson, Braylon Mullins, Brayden Burries, Mikel Brown Jr., and Acaden Lewis.
