A huge update on Lamont Butler’s injury status, while Jaxson Robinson is now uncertain to play.
The Kentucky Wildcats and South Carolina Gamecocks have released their SEC injury reports ahead of Saturday’s game at Rupp Arena.
For Kentucky, point guard Lamont Butler is now QUESTIONABLE to play. That’s a big upgrade from recent weeks when he was ruled out ahead of the three games he’s missed.
Butler has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury that’s kept him out for two weeks. He last played in the January 25th loss to Vanderbilt but did return to non-contact practice this week, so a return does appear imminent.
The fact that he’s questionable suggests there’s a good chance of him returning by either Tuesday vs. Tennessee or Saturday at Texas next week.
That’s the good news. The bad news is Jaxson Robinson has popped up on the injury report and is questionable due to an unknown issue. Losing Robinson would be a major setback for Kentucky, even if Butler is somehow able to go (I’d guess Butler misses this one). Losing both could be the difference in who wins Saturday in Rupp Arena.
Backup point guard Kerr Kriisa remains out following foot surgery in December. This week, Mark Pope said Kriisa was still not doing anything active on the court but is doing more work in the weight room. It remains to be seen if we’ll see him again this season.
For South Carolina, shooting guard Myles Stute remains out indefinitely due to a blood clot in his left leg that was announced on January 7th. Stute started all 14 games for the Gamecocks before his injury.

Without Lamont Butler and Kerr Kriisa, Kentucky has struggled, especially on the defensive end.
